Overview

Back in 2010, Yahoo! Cricket was the most-visited cricket site in India, according to comScore, with 2.5 to 3 million unique visits a month, but as desktop traffic took a backseat and the era of apps dawned, market dynamics started changing and Yahoo! was unable to keep the pace. Therefore, the goal now was to get Yahoo! Cricket back to being one of the top cricketing destinations.

Strategy

With countless cricket apps and websites already available to the user, it was imperative that we came up with something off the beaten path. Having a clean, non-cluttered UI with lightning-quick scores, along with fan engagement through contextual interactions, were some of the approaches. We also considered that users who normally dip in and out of the app needed a summary of what they missed while they were away.

Creativity & Innovation

Simplicity encourages creativity because it minimizes distraction. We went for a simple, clutter-free interface with minimal colours that ensured users a hassle-free access to the data and stories available. It elucidated that the product on offer was free of gimmicks and directed users to the rich content on offer.

Execution

Fan Shout: A live poll that throws up contextual questions during the match keeping the user engaged through the live event.

Moments you missed: Allows fans to quickly catch up on all important events that occurred while they were away, getting them up to speed with the proceedings.

Ball in Play: An engaging feature that lets the fan see the bowler’s steps as he starts his run-up till the point he delivers the ball, helping to build up the anticipation.

Execution

#Contextual Infographics: Auto-generated contextual graphic giving the fan graphical representation of important events and statistics during the course of the game.

Social Media Integration: Seamless integration of social media posts within the match commentary, giving the fan a sense of emotion among other fans.
