Prior to 1979 the USA top racing series was sanctioned by the United States Auto Club but following disputes over the running of the series Championship Auto Racing Teams was formed and started its own series. Following disputes over the regulations for the Indy 500 in the 1990s, CART split into 2 and the Indy Racing League was formed around the Indy 500.

Since its inception in 1979 the CART series has ventured out of the USA to countries such as Australia and Brazil and in the last couple of years has moved into Mexico and Europe.

SPORTZ iNTERACTIVE will kick off it's coverage of the CART Series when the 2004-2005 Championship gets underway from the Streets of Downtown St. Petersburg on February 23.
